San Francisco

I just booked a trip to San Francisco. We are leaving the Wednesday after Lavender Days , and I am so excited. I am in major need of a vacation! This is the first trip where my husband and I will be staying in a hotel and not with family or friends. I think it will be a blast.

I think my posting will be a bit sporadic the next couple of weeks. I’m going to be working hard (I didn’t get home until 8:30 today!) and then hangin’ by the bay. So bear with me! I’ll be posting regularly again after July 4th.

Reel Lawn Mower

When my husband and I moved into our townhome we started to dread having to buy big things for our tiny yard. For example, we didn’t actually buy a snow shovel until March. We also didn’t want to buy a big lawn mower for our patch of grass that is about the equivalent of a small living room. So we decided to buy a real lawn mower…or I mean a reel lawn mower. It is awesome. We don’t have to worry about the engine starting, no filling up the gas tank, no loud noises. It mows our lawn very well (sometimes it misses some long pieces, but over all it is great), it makes us have just a bit of a work out (I really need it!), and no worries about leaking gas as I carry it through my house and into my garage (it is the shortest route, I swear). But the best part is that it looks great when it is sitting it the garage. It’s small and sweet.

My Dream Table

I found my dream table in Better Homes and Gardens magazine. (July’s issue on page 136. ) I just think it would be so fun to have benches. And I love how everything isn’t matchy-matchy.

Desk on KSL.com

I’ve been thinking about getting a roll top desk for my front entry way. It would be nice to have a place to organize papers…and it would be nice to have a convenient way to hid them when (not if) they get messy. However, a desk like this would be kid of cool if the rest of the room had furniture that was a bit more understated.

Found on KSL.com , it can be yours for $200.

I’ll be back…

I’m going to be working around the clock the next couple days trying to make an event at the Lavender Farm go off without a hitch. Wish me luck. I’ll be writing on My Pemberley on Monday.

e-Decorating

Decor8 had an interesting post today about e-decorating . I have been interested in the idea for the past year or so–since I saw a short blurb on one such service in Domino Magazine. Fill out a few pages of info and in just a few weeks they send you back a completed room with ideas of where to buy everything they suggest! Wahoo! A room designed by a professional without huge fees! The post at Decor8 has info on a few design firms that do such things, but I’m sure there are designers in Utah that would do a similar service…now we just have to find them!

Measuring Tape–A Must For Any Home Decorator

I can’t even tell you how many times I have used the small tape measure I keep in my purse. It is so nice to pull it out and measure something I see at a store to make sure it will fit in that perfect spot at home. I have the blinged out one in the picture above. (I don’t have too much bling going on in my life, so it is fun to pull this out every now and then!) However, if I had to do it all over again I might choose the purple one below.

All these measuring tapes are from Z Gallerie . (The only Z Gallerie in Utah is at The Gateway.)

Country Style at Scrooge and Marley’s–a Utah Home Decor Store

I stopped by Scrooge and Marley’s a month or two ago without my camera, and they don’t have a website, so I can’t show you how incredibly cute the store is. The building is an old, old pioneer home and they sell quaint home decorations and furniture.

I would definitely label their style as “country.” I’m not the biggest fan of country decorations, but one time during the year there is an exception. It is around the 4th of July. I would love my home to look like a country cottage from mid June until after the July 24th. (Can I just say Utah is so lucky to have two heritage holidays in July? I love it.) Right now I want to go and buy up everything at Scrooge and Marley’s and plunk it down in my home. They are a bit pricey, but I’m sure there are deals to be found!

Scrooge and Marley’s Emporium of Country Gifts and Furnishings is located at 791 N. 1st E. in Lehi. They are open Monday through Friday 10-6.

Dry Erase Paint?

I’ve heard a ton about using chalk board paint, but today is the first time I’ve heard of dry erase paint. Cool!

Lavender Days–Utah’s Most Spectacular Festival

Can I just tell you that event planning is hard?!? I am currently planning a lavender festival, where we are planning on having over 10,000 people show up, with just a few other incredibly talented women. And let me just say we are swamped! But it will all be worth it in the end. There is going to be entertainment (professional jousting, live bands, a sharp shooter, medieval characters, a western shootout, etc.), educational classes (gardening, fitness, cooking), food vendors (lavender lemonade, wraps, burgers, Navajo tacos, flat bread sandwiches, etc.), and a ton of activities (lavender crafts, pony rides, paddle boat rides, rock climbing, blow up toys, rides, etc.).

Some of the most popular activities we do are parties for children. The one for the girls is hosted by the lavender fairy and one for the boys is hosted by our knight of the order of the lavender dragon. I’m having a blast planning everything, and I hope y’all will want to come out and visit! (Unfortunately all this planning is not going to leave me too much time to explore new home decorating stores in Utah. Come July, however, I’ll be all over the place!)

Lavender Days is June 27 & 28. If you have any questions about this fun event just let me know! I have all the answers (or at least know who does).
