On the Search for a Kitchen Table

So I made a bit of progress on my kitchen this week. (Wah-freakin’-hoo!) It really does feel like a major accomplishment to get a tiny piece of the project complete, especially since my husband was at scout camp all week! I’ve started having dreams in my head of actually eating at my kitchen table, unfortunately I don’t have one and need to find one.

I like the style of this table that I found on KSL.com .

I love the wings that can pop out on the sides, love the $80 price tag, and love the curve on the legs. However, I don’t love the fact that it would become yet another project to complete (totally needs to be sanded and refinished/painted). I’ve seen a few other tables that I almost like, but they are oval and I’m not sure I like oval. Does anyone have any thoughts for or against oval tables?

  1. Love this table! I’d clean it up, paint it black with a semigloss paint and voila! You’re table is done! :) Wal-mart sells a paint called Kilz and it’s fabulous because it’s cheap (hello, Wal-mart!) and it has a primer already in the paint! It’s lovely! Keep us updated on what you decide to do!

  2. Ah, yes, we have an oval table. We chose it because it was the ONLY table at the furniture store that would fit in our small space - that wasn’t a round table, that is. I think it looks great in our house, but I do think there are functional downsides. One is that it is actually rather difficult to find oval tablecloths, and the rectangular ones look funny. Another is that it is a little awkward to sit on the ends of the table because of the curvature. And the corners of our placemats either overlap with each other, or stick off the table a little. Wouldn’t be a problem if the table were bigger, but also wouldn’t be a problem if it were rectangular.
